What Flowers Are in Season for a February Wedding?
February weddings sit between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, offering a unique opportunity to blend seasonal favourites with the first signs of the new season.
Knowing which flowers are in season for your February wedding will help you choose blooms that are fresh, beautiful, and budget-friendly. From classic winter florals to the early arrivals of English-grown flowers and Dutch imports, this guide will give you an overview of what flowers to expect when planning your perfect February wedding
Why Choose Seasonal Flowers for Your Wedding?
When it comes to your wedding flowers, seasonality matters—and for good reason. Do you want the best quality, most beautiful blooms for your big day? Then choosing flowers that are in season should be your priority.
Flowers that are grown in their peak season are at their freshest and most vibrant, offering superior quality and longevity compared to out-of-season varieties.
Opting for seasonal flowers often means they’ll be more cost-effective too. With flowers in season, you’re less likely to pay premium prices for imports and out-of-season blooms that have travelled long distances. This not only saves you money but also ensures that the flowers are at their best.
In a world where we can access almost anything at any time of year, it’s easy to overlook the importance of seasonality. But as a florist, I always guide my wedding flower couples to embrace the season in which they'll be wed. Not only does it result in a more cohesive and natural look for your arrangements, but it’s also a wonderful way to capture the beauty and feel of your wedding season.
Flowers in Season for February Weddings
February is a wonderful month for wedding flowers, offering a beautiful mix of early spring and late winter flowers.
From the start of the bulb season to the availability of some carefully imported flowers, there’s a variety of options to suit any style.
If you're aiming for a fully seasonal look, consider blooms like hyacinths, muscari (grape hyacinths), tulips, anemones, ranunculus and lilacs. These flowers are perfect for a romantic winter-to-spring transition.
For a country garden wedding style, these seasonal flowers are ideal. Their natural beauty and soft tones will give your day an effortlessly rustic, romantic feel.
If you’re after a more stylised and modern look, consider incorporating more structured flowers. Cymbidium orchids are a winter orchid, which can be pared with roses for an elegant feel.
Ranunculus are known for their delicate, layered petals and vibrant colours, making them a beautiful addition to any February wedding bouquet. Their soft texture and romantic look work perfectly for weddings transitioning from winter to spring.
Hellebores are also known as Christmas Roses. Perfect to use in buttonholes and bridal bouquets. They are available in greens, whites, pinks and rich burgundy. Perfect for a winter/spring wedding flower arrangement.
Lilac happens to be one of my favourite flowers for a february wedding. These delicate fragranced flowers come in soft blushes, whites, purples and lilacs. THey are great used in larger arrangements and table designs.
Muscari (also known as grape hyacinths) are perfect to use in February weddings, especially if you are after a true blue flower. These have a sweet smell and are perfect for creating a more garden inspired wedding.
Anemones have to be one of my all time favourite flowers for February. They come in a range of colours from lilacs, deep purples, reds, burgundys and the most beautiful pastel whites and pinks.
Narcissi are the ultimate seasonal flower. With a range of UK grown varieties, they are ideal if you are looking for adding scent and true seasonality to your wedding.
Tulips are a clasic early spring flower. Available in every colour under the sun, they are wonderful for spring weddings. Opt for double varieties to give big fluffy vibes.
Ranunculus are ever popular for creating soft feminine designs. Almost peony like in petal formation, they come in a wide range of colours for your wedding day.
Using February Flowers with Other Florals
One of the joys of planning a winter wedding is the opportunity to combine seasonal flowers with other staples like roses.
For a romantic, ethereal look, consider pairing lilacs with roses
For a more natural, wildflower-inspired feel, combine ranunculus with thistles and eustoma to create a rustic, textured bouquet full of movement.
When it comes to colours, your palette can truly set the tone for your wedding day.
For a light, fresh feel, opt for soft whites and pastels. Hellebores, lilacs, roses, ranunculus, and anemones can all bring beautiful, fresh to your wedding flowers.
If you're looking for something more dramatic, consider rich, jewel-toned flowers such as burgundy hellebores, deep purple tulips, and dark anemones. These deep hues are perfect if you're wanting to create warmth and richness to your wedding flowers.
As February is often seen as the beginning of spring, it’s the perfect time to embrace colour. Mix early spring flowers like narcissi ranunculus, tulips, and brightly coloured roses.
