Hello and a warm welcome to our Q&A session with a wedding florist! I'm Emma, the head florist at Green Parlour, and I'm thrilled to be your guide through the wonderful world of wedding flowers. With over 20 years of experience in the floral industry, I've developed a deep passion for creating stunning floral arrangements that bring joy to couples on their special day.
Planning a wedding can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially when it comes to choosing the perfect flowers to complement your vision. That's why I've put together this Q&A session—to help answer all those burning questions you may have about wedding floristry.
Whether you're just starting your wedding flower journey or looking for expert advice to refine your floral plans, I'm here to provide insightful answers and valuable guidance every step of the way. So, don't hesitate to share your questions with us—I'm here to help you plan your dream wedding with beautiful blooms.
I always recommend booking your wedding florist at least 6-12 months before your wedding date, especially if you're getting married during peak wedding season. This allows time for consultations, planning, and securing your desired floral arrangements. However, don't hesitate to reach out as soon as you have your wedding date and venue secured to discuss our availability
This is where having an experienced florist as your wedding vendor really shines. Any good florist will be able to advise you on how to make the most of your flower budget. They may consider the areas where your florals will have the most impact, suggesting arrangements that can serve multiple purposes and recommending a blend of higher-cost blooms like garden roses with more cost-effective flowers like dianthus. I'd always also advise seeking guidance on whether your budget aligns with the look you want to achieve. You may have a figure in mind, but be open to advice on whether it's feasible to achieve your desired vision within that budget. A good florist will be able to suggest ways to optimise your flower budget and collaborate with you to determine what's achievable
Flowers offer endless possibilities for wedding décor beyond the usual bouquets and centerpieces. I love to think of the areas that are going to be a big moment in your day and look at these areas to have those larger knock-out displays - entrances, the ceremony table and the top table are always fabulous areas to decorate with imapact florals. Consider floral arches, hanging installations, flower walls, and floral aisle runners to add wow factor to your wedding venue. Whilst it's not always possible, I like to advise on where these can be re-used for maximum impact for your budget.
In the height of summer, this can be an area of concern for our couples. I always try my best to suggest arrangements that will stand up to any conditions and make care on the day easy and uncomplicated for couples. Keeping bridal flowers in water until an hour before walking down the aisle, ensuring all floral displays are made as close to the big day as possible, and keeping your flowers out of direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time all assist with the longevity of the flowers.
I always like to discuss the fact that wedding florals are also different from flowers you buy from a flower shop - by this I mean, wedding florals are at their prime opening stage for your big day, that means they are designed to last the day looking gorgeous but they won't have a huge amount of longevity after the occasion. We spend time calculating when to get your flowers in so we can get them to that prime stage at exactly the right moment - when you're walking down the aisle! Shop flowers are sold 'in bud' where they develop over time.
On your wedding day, make sure you have a few vases to place any bridal and bridesmaids flowers in, this means you can enjoy them for longer after the actual day and if you are thinking of preserving them, they will be perfect for the company undertaking the preservation.
Thank you for joining me for this Wedding Edition Q&A session! I hope you found the answers to your wedding floristry questions both informative and inspiring. If you have any further questions that you'd like guidance on, or would like to delve deeper into planning your wedding flowers, please don't hesitate to get in touch Emma@greenparlour.com
